Job & Vietnamese Camp

Today is a big day for myriad reasons:

1. I got a job! I can now officially say I am an employed English Teacher in HCM City. Working for Apollo, where I got my certification; the best part is, the whole gig is teaching at 'partnership' schools, which are public elementary schools, so I get to teach real Vietnamese kids, not the pretend rich Vietnamese kids. Got hired today, start with training and such tomorrow. I even have to open a Vietnamese  bank account. It feels so symbolic, my first foreign bank account.

2. Saw the Vietnamese version of Sister Act this evening. WHAT?! Yes, it's exactly like it sounds, except far more campy. And with kung-fu fighting Buddhist nuns in addition to the Catholic ones. And of course, in Vietnamese complete with amazingly cheesy Vietnamese pop and subtitles that are iffy at best. Apparently it's not a common genre for VN film, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. Everyone in the packed movie theater agreed, which made it even better. The protagonist is a middle-aged overweight ex-pop singer who constantly talks about food. The plot, however, was thin enough to make up for her pot belly. We all forgave that minor oversight.

So I guess that was only 2 reasons. I got a hair cut for 1/3 the price I pay in AA. Francesca had her purse stolen by a motorbike thief...

yea, I guess that's it.
